Post Boys that never went to Eretz Yisroel..is that normal?

So basically all 5 of my brother in laws learned in EY at some point before heading back to date. I was just redt a guy that never went. Why? We were told that he was learning well in his small Yeshiva and he is still learning there. Can any of you educate me why a guy goes to learn in EY? Doesn't it make sense that if he's learning well in one place to stay put. I don't really want to get my brother in laws involved cuz then it becomes a whole hock and topic of conversation and I've been there done that. So, maybe some of you can help me. Thanks!

My brother- in - law is here now and i thought he could probably answer your question better than me because he is farmiliar with the yeshiva system. So here he is.
Many guys need to go out to Eretz Yisroel in order to be able to reach a level of learning that is not possible when they are distracted in America. If this guy is able to shteig in America without distractions that says a lot about him. I know a Rosh Yeshiva who never went to learn in Eretz Yisroel. The question is if he did not go because he has a good Rebbie and Yeshiva where he is shteiging (that is priceless and worth staying for). Or is it because he did not want to be exposed to the posssibility of that higher level of learning which is possible in Eretz Yisroel, because of complacency about who he is. I think one of the most important middos to look for is one who is looking to grow. Rav Chatzkal Levinstein's worst condimnation of a bochur was that he is a fartiger (finished growing). I hope you will find someone you could shteig together with no matter where he lives or learns .

Wow, thanks! I think your brother in law should start his own forum he writes so well!!! So now the question is how do we really know what his reason is? Will speaking to his rebbeim help or perhaps I need to look past it for now yet keep it in my mind and when I meet him I will be able to tell..does that even make sense? Thanks!!!

Well there were a few spelling mistakes 😛 I think you should be able to get a pretty accurate reason from his references. Even the "official answer" is worth something. Know what I mean?

IMO: the eretz yisroel part is not the relevant part of this question. The question is what yeshiva he is in, whether you are interested in someone from that yeshiva, and whether what he is doing is normal and appropriate for someone in that yeshiva.
