Anyone ever ask you on a date "so what are your hobbies?" It's such an awkward question for me I don't have any hobbies but then I sound like I have no personality.
Do you think that's a normal question to be asked?

I hate it when they ask that. After all, if you are a certain age, you are either busy with work or school, and just manage to take care of errands on weekends. In terms of "Does a normal guy ask that?", well, it's a perfectly innocent question, albeit an annoying one. But I'm not defensive when they ask. "Does professional shopper count?"

It's a great convo starter if say the person plays an instrument or does hair/makeup ir swims or plays sports or runs or goes to gym etc... Hobbies don't necessarily mean something super unique! Reading, writing decorating are all hobbies! It's a great and easy question to find out what the ther person enjoys doing in spare time. Like if a girl already finished school - what do u do to chill etc.

I collect shrunken heads-- this works only if you've been to ripley's.

lol moori..i always say "basketweaving".

it is a pretty formal way to ask about how you spend your free time. I always feel like I'm filling out a questionnaire. But I guess its awkward on their end too, at least the "burden" of making conversation is not on us (officially)...

Why on earth do you want a tarantula? Not to confirm or deny breeding them. (see bas melech, we're different people)

They seem like a fun pet to have. I don't think you can bond emotionally with them like you can with a dog or cat, but seems much more fun to play with than a bird.

And probably would help get over fear of insects.

anything can be a hobby. you like cooking, baking (that'll get them to really listen to you. make sure you tell them you make an awesome cholent and the best cookies and cakes around...) reading, writing, listening to music/playing music, going on a walk and enjoying nature, exercising (whoa that's the first time i spelled the word correctly and didn't get a red squiggle under it!), and you can always ask him back what his hobbies are, to take away some of the awkwardness and you probably wanna know about that anyway.
