Post (Poem) Please Give Me A Chance
on: March 3, 2013, 4:09 AM

Bitachon suggested I write about "[how] "It's the boy's right of refusal." Girls are told and willing to go out for a second or third [time] and the boys just simply say "No, its not shayach." or "It didn't click." or "I don't think this will go anywhere.""

I gave it a shot even though I can't completely relate. This poem is a tribute all those who can.

Why won’t you give this a chance,
There’s more to me than first glance.
Can you not invest a little,
Why be so noncommittal?
Is it because you have a list,
And your next date pre-exists?
You say no to me because you don’t see it right away,
I’m just another “not feeling it” cliché.
Why do I even bother to say yes in situations such as these?
Is my thoroughness some sort of weird disease?
I don’t see it either, but I’m willing to try again,
Couldn’t you at least, a slight interest, feign?
Why, when I try to give you a chance,
I end up in this fruitless dance?
Of the so-called crisis it’s just another symptom,
Boys have more dates so they think they rule the system.
Many guys are much quicker to give a no,
Because they do not wonder when they’ll have a chance to on another date go.
Truthfully though, when you end it quickly,
It takes that responsibility off of me.
So thanks for that and hatzlacha,
I hope you're following someone's hadracha.

great poem!
but actually i find it really works the other way.
i have had numerous times where boys took forever looking into me- months, and then finally agreed to go out with me.
well let me tell you, i come home from the date barfing and the next morning the shadchan calls that the boy is dancing from excitement and he feels it went so well.... happens to my friends too!

I agree with you. Like I said, I can't really relate. Most of the time I find that boys keep saying yes and keep going out (maybe because a good portion of dating guys aren't really sure what they're looking for?).

Give me more to work with... (You can PM me.) I'll see what I can come up with. 🙂

I'm not sure how to PM yet...but here's what I'm thinking: I'm one year older... I'm thankful for that, but don't want it to happen since I'm still single! I'm juggling the feelings of thank you Hashem for all you've done for me these past years of my life, and feelings of how is it possible that by this birthday I'm still single???
